The Faculty of Information Technology, Infortec International Asia Campus offers the Diploma in Computer Science programme as a one-year, career-oriented qualification designed to equip students with fundamental and practical knowledge in computing and information technology. As a work-based, self-financing programme, it aims to produce competent and industry-ready professionals who can meet the growing demand for skilled personnel in the field of Information Technology both locally and internationally.

This programme is specially designed for the academic and professional development of individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in IT. School leavers, beginners in computing, and those who intend to enhance their technical skills or transition into the IT industry will greatly benefit from this programme. It provides a strong foundation in key areas such as computer fundamentals, programming, database management, networking, and web development.

The Diploma in Computer Science programme focuses on developing both theoretical understanding and practical competencies, ensuring students are well-prepared for entry-level positions or further studies in the field of computing. Objectives of the Diploma in Computer Science Programme

  • The Diploma in Computer Science aims to provide students with a strong foundation in information and communication technology (ICT), equipping them with practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for the modern IT industry. The program is designed to prepare students for employment in both government and private sector organizations, while also creating pathways for higher education locally and internationally.

Duration of the Programme

  1. The Diploma in Computer Science is conducted over a period of two years, allowing students to gain comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in various areas of computing.

Programme Details

  1. This programme consists of 60 credits and includes more than 1500 notional learning hours, combining both academic study and practical training. Upon successful completion, students will have the opportunity to apply for advanced standing or exemptions when progressing to degree programmes at foreign universities. The course is open to students who have completed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in Sri Lanka or possess an equivalent recognized foundation qualification in ICT.

Recognition and Accreditations

The Diploma in Computer Science offered by Infortec International Technologies is widely recognized by both government and private sector employers in Sri Lanka, ensuring strong employability opportunities for graduates.

The programme is officially accredited by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) of Sri Lanka under registration number P09-0074, effective from 2006 onwards, reflecting its compliance with national quality standards in vocational and higher education.

In addition, the diploma provides valuable academic progression pathways, enabling students to pursue higher education opportunities in countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, subject to the admission requirements of respective universities.

 

Furthermore, the programme has been recognized by the British Computer Society (BCS), with exemptions granted for five subjects without conditions under the BCS APL (Accredited Prior Learning) scheme, enhancing its international academic credibility.
